“S”-Type Special Safety Nets for the Major Port of Valencia Project
The northern expansion of the Port of Valencia is progressing strongly thanks to the floating dock “Kugira,” the largest caisson pusher in Europe and one of the greatest port engineering projects in the world. To ensure worker safety during the installation of the colossal concrete caissons, Visor Fall Arrest Nets safety nets have been deployed.
In this case, “S”-type safety nets measuring 22 x 69 meters were used, a special size that added some complexity to their manufacturing and installation. These nets are designed to absorb impacts and prevent falls in elevated work areas, adapting to the unique dimensions of the caissons and the port environment.
Thanks to the implementation of Visornets “S”-type safety nets, the project not only meets the strictest occupational safety standards through the use of collective protections but also allows the efficient and risk-free fabrication of the caissons.
This project consolidates the Port of Valencia’s expansion as a benchmark in port engineering.
Safety nets allow the construction of concrete caissons to be carried out efficiently and without risks
The “Kugira”: the Mediterranean giant
The “Kugira” caisson dock, whose name means whale in Japanese, measures 60 meters high, 74 meters long, and 49 meters wide, with a height similar to an 18-story building. This machinery can construct a 14,000-ton reinforced concrete caisson, 66.5 meters long and 34 meters high, in just 10 days.
The “Kugira” has arrived in Valencia to lead the northern expansion. This project includes a main quay of more than 2 km, auxiliary quays, and 126 hectares of reclaimed land formed with dredged material.
Safety net project by the numbers
Visor Fall Arrest Nets: protection in every detail
At Visornets, we know that every detail matters when it comes to safety. The scale of the Port of Valencia project requires not only large machinery but also reliable protection systems to safeguard human teams.
For this reason, our Visornets safety nets were installed during the construction and placement of the caissons, providing extra protection against falls and workplace accidents. Our commitment is clear: to support every client on projects of any size with solutions that comply with the strictest safety regulations.
The S-type safety nets, thanks to their combination of strength, lightness, and durability, are an ideal solution for:
A key project for the future of the Port of Valencia
The new MSC container terminal will cover 137 hectares and nearly 2 km of quay line. It will be ready to receive megaships of over 24,000 TEU.
Thanks to the precision of the “Kugira” and the safety provided by Visornets safety nets, this project progresses with maximum assurance, combining innovation, engineering, and protection.
Visornets commitment: safety without limits
At Visornets, we don’t just manufacture safety nets: we build trust. We participate in some of the most ambitious port engineering projects, always ensuring worker safety is never compromised.
The Port of Valencia is moving towards the future, and our safety nets are there to make it possible.
